Utilizing Speaker Coach

Speaker Coach is a virtual that helps users become more confident and effective speakers. This tool provided insights, that are private to the user, that will help increase their speaking skills. It uses the microphone and camera to analyze communication skills such as pace, pitch, filler words, and pronunciation, as well as body language (if desired), providing valuable, real-time feedback and insights. Search Coach is available within Microsoft Teams Meetings, PowerPoint, and Clipchamp. To utilize Speaker Coach, please follow these instructions:

Tip: Accurate feedback requires a quiet space that minimizes audio interference, so encourage users to find a location that’s not heavily trafficked. Speaker Coach also works best when one user is speaking; expect less accurate feedback if more than one user is rehearsing on the same device.

Tip: If students have used Speaker Coach to rehearse, then disable real-time feedback during the final presentation to prevent hints from being displayed which can distract students. Rehearsal Report:

When a user exits their rehearsal, they will receive a personalized report. It will contain interactive feedback and analysis, that is privately shared so that the user can review suggestions on their own.

The rehearsal report includes focused feedback on metrics known to influence how an audience perceives a presentation.

  1. Summary: Provides elapsed time and the number of slides reviewed.
  2. Fillers: Highlights frequently used filler words like “um” and “you know.”
  3. Repetitive Language: Counts words and phrases that are repeatedly spoken.
  4. Inclusiveness: Discovers when language is not inclusive in areas like disability, gender, and race.
  5. Pace: Monitors speed and receive pacing suggestions that increase audience recall and comprehension.
  6. Pitch: Listens for monotone pitch that can negatively affect messaging.
  7. Originality: Calls out instances when reading directly from a slide.
  8. Rehearse Again: Clears all the data in the report and starts a new rehearsal.

Speaker Coach also provides data on other metrics known to improve public speaking.

  • Pronunciation: Isolates muddled words or mispronunciations.
  • Speech Refinements: Spots speech problems like wordiness and euphemisms.
  • Body Language: Analyzes physical mannerisms, posture, and eye contact (optional).
