Gale in Context: For Educators is a database that enables SAU #19 educators to find, customize, and personalize content from Gale resources. Educators can create lesson plans, tailor article directions, select specific sections of articles, highlight text for students, add annotations, embed videos, and more. Completed assignments can be embedded directly into Schoology courses. To add content from Gale in Context: For Educators in your Schoology Course, please follow these directions:
1. Click into one of your Schoology Courses.
2. To add content as a Material within the Course, click on Add Materials and choose Gale in Context: For Educators from the right-hand side of the drop-down menu.
To add content as an Assignment, click on Add Materials and choose Add Assignment from the left-hand side of the drop-down menu.
Enter all important Assignment information. Then click the Insert Content button and select Gale in Context: For Educators from the right-hand side of the drop-down menu.
3. You will need to log in using your Microsoft account by clicking on Log in/Create Account.
4. Click on the Sign in with Microsoft button. It will either automatically log you in from there, or it will prompt you to enter your username@sau19.org and normal computer password.
5. Search for and customize the content you want to add. If you are prompted to enter an institution password or it tells you the email is not associated with the library for that school. Just refresh and repeat your search again.
6. Once you locate an article you wish to use, you can add an instructor's note with directions or important information for your students. Click Save once you are done.
Please Note: Once you start customizing the article, you maybe prompted to save it to the Class Resources within a folder first. Click Add in the navigation menu and then click Folder. Once you complete this step, you will be able to continue customizing.
If you previously created a folder, you can select that folder or click Create Folder, name the new folder, and select it. Then click Add Document.
7. To annotate on selected text, highlight the desired text. Once the pop-up box appears, select the color for the highlight, enter the annotation into the text box, toggle on Visible to students, and click Save.
This will add the annotation to the article. Click on the highlighted area to see the annotation.
8. If you want students to only view a portion of an article, highlight the selection of the article desired, and when the pop-up window appears, check the box for Make Clipping and then click Save.
The student view will be limited to that clipping selection that you want them to focus on. If they want to see the full article, they can click View Full Article.
9. Click My Tools and have the ability to add assessment questions into the article or learn more about annotating or clipping article selections.
10. To adjust the reading level of the article, click Reading Levels and then click the desired level.
11. Once you are done customizing, click on either Link to student document to copy a link that can be added into Schoology as a Material link or into an Assignment (the preferable method).
Adding it as a link will allow students to open it the article in a new window, which provides a better viewing experience. Click on Embed student document to embed it directly into your Schoology Course. If you are embedding it into an assignment, click Create to finish the assignment creation. Embedding the article will shrink the article into a small window within the Schoology Course page.
12. You can link to, download, or print a copy of the article by clicking on the appropriate icon in the top navigation menu.
12. To add it as a Schoology Material link or to an Assignment in Schoology, click Send To.
13. Click Get shareable student link.
14. Click Copy Link and then add this link into your Schoology Assignment or add it as a Material link in your Schoology Course.
Accessing Class Resources in Gale in Context: For Educators:
Once you are logged into Gale in Context: For Educators, click on your profile menu in the upper right-hand corner and then click on My Class Resources. You will be able to access any resources you have created.
