How to Utilize Dictation (Voice Typing) in Google Docs
Voice Typing
Voice Typing lets users use speech-to-text in Google Docs. It's a quick and easy way for users to speak their thoughts, take notes, and write papers easily. Users will need a device with a built-in microphone to utilize voice typing. Google voice typing tools may only work on Chromium Based browsers so on a school device, users will need to use Microsoft Edge and on a personal device, browsers such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome will need to be used.
To use Dictation:
1. Open a new Google Doc.
2. Click on 'Tools' from the top menu and then select 'Voice typing' from the drop-down menu.
3. If you need to change the language, click the drop-down arrow next to 'English' and select the language desired.
4. Click the 'microphone' icon to dictate.
5. It may ask you to allow access to your microphone. Click 'Allow'.
6. When the microphone is listening, the icon will appear red. Speak the text you want to type. Click the red 'microphone' icon to stop dictating.
7. Click the 'X' above the 'microphone' icon to exit out of voice typing.
