Setting Up Scholastic Magazine Subscriptions in Schoology (MVMS and GHS)

SAU #19 middle and high school teachers who have linked Course Sections in Schoology and an active Scholastic News subscription will need to follow a different process than teachers with unlinked Course Sections to utilize resources with students. The current Schoology integration does not support Linked Course Sections.  Below are step-by-step directions for both Linked and Unlinked Courses. Please follow the instructions that apply to your Course setup.

Please Note: This method is used if you want to allow students to explore the magazines on their own. You can also attach a direct link to a Scholastic News Material. To do that, please follow the directions outline within this link: SAU19 Knowledge Base - Adding a Direct Scholastic Magazine Material Link to a Schoology Course.

Linked Courses in Schoology

1. Log into Schoology (https://sau19.schoology.com) and click the Scholastic button on the left side bar, named after the product you subscribe to followed by the word EducatorBe careful because you will still see the Scholastic Digital Manager Button on there. Do not click that button if you are using Linked Sections, only click the button for your subscription (ex: Junior Scholastic Educator, ScienceWorld Educator, Scope Educator, etc.).

2. This will bring you into the Educator & Librarian Sign In page. Click MyScholastic.

3. Log in with your Scholastic log in information (school email and the password you used when setting up your Scholastic account). If you have not set up a Scholastic account yet, you will need to set one up with your school email and the Scholastic code on the back of your printed magazines.

You will now be brought into your Scholastic portal.

4. You will need to get your class password to share with students. Click on your profile icon and select My Dashboard.

5. You will see your class password. Share this with your students. If you need to edit it, you can click Edit to change it.

Teachers and students can access online materials through the left side bar. Please Note: Students must click on their assigned Scholastic product (not Educator) at least once weekly to stay rostered. They may be asked to re-enter the class code, which will re-roster them automatically. Be sure to post this code on your Schoology code for future reference.

Teachers can also assign Scholastic materials directly to students by searching for resources within Scholastic. When a material is opened, select Share, copy the open link (not the locked link), and paste it into a Schoology assignment. To ensure access, students must first click the button for the magazine being used from the left‑hand sidebar to authenticate their accounts (this must be done weekly). After authenticating, students can click the activity link, which will take them directly to the assigned material.

*If you need to add another magazine to your account, on the Dashboard, click the + icon and click Add New Magazine from the drop-down menu.

Enter the magazine access code into the Access Code text field and then click Activate.

Unlinked Courses in Schoology

1. Log into Schoology (https://sau19.schoology.com) and click on the Scholastic Digital Manager button in the left side bar.

2. When prompted, enter grade level and product access code provided by Scholastic (located on the back of the printed magazine bundle). If you do not know your access code, please email your technology integration specialist.

3. If you need to add an additional Scholastic product access code, click on the button with a plus sign that says 'Add New Program' and then enter the product code for the additional product.

Teachers can now utilize the online materials. If you have multiple Courses that use the Scholastic Magazines, you will need to repeat this process for each Course.

Students will need to click on Scholastic Digital Manager from the left side bar to create their accounts from within YOUR Schoology Course. Accounts will automatically be created and no access code for students is needed. Once their accounts are created, they can access Scholastic materials.
