Assigning Annotations Assignments

Setting Up an Annotations Assignment

Teachers can assign a copy of a PDF to students that allow them to annotate (write, type, highlight, etc) directly on top of the PDF. To create an Annotations Assignment, please follow these instructions:

1. Go into a Schoology Course.
2. Click 'Add Materials' and then click 'Add Assignment' from the drop-down menu.
3. Add an Assignment title AND a description of what students will do with the document and then click 'Annotations Assignment'.
4. It will prompt you to add a file from your Device. Choose the file and then click 'Open'. PDF files are the recommended document type.
5. Once you add the file you will see it attached and a message stating 'Students annotate their own copy'. Be sure to choose a 'Category'. If it is ungraded, select 'Ungraded'. If it is graded, select the number of points to assign it. Add a 'Due Date'. If you are not grading in Schoology (Grades 6 and under), please uncheck 'Sync to SIS'. You can also lock the assignment to prevent overly late submissions by clicking on the lock icon and choose to 'Lock' the assignment on a date a few days after the Due Date (or the desired lock date).
*Do Not forget to click on the word bubble icon to 'Disable Comments'. Then click 'Create'.
