Using Microsoft Teams in Schoology

Schoology users with Office 365 accounts can create Teams meetings from within a Schoology Course to create a meeting to host a virtual class.


Create a Teams Meeting from the Left Side Bar

1. Click Teams Quick Meet from the left side bar from your Schoology Course.

2. If this is the first time you are using Teams Meeting from your Schoology Course, you will need to sign into your Microsoft account. Click Sign in. Sign in using your Office365 log in.

3. Once logged in, click on Create meeting link.

4. Then enter the meeting title, date, and time and click Create.

5. When the link appears, click to copy the link.

6. Click 'Materials' from the left side bar. In the area you want to add the link, click 'Add Materials' and then click 'Add File/Link/External Tool.

7. Click 'Link'.
8. Paste the link and title your link. For linked sections: If you want to add a different link for each class, click to customize the sections and select your first sections. Then repeat the process of creating and adding a link to customize it for each of your other linked sections.

9. Please make sure to click on the 'ABC' icon and change it to say: 'Display in a New Window' or the link will give a 'Refused to Connect' error.


*You can also add the link to a Calendar event, a Course Update (which is customizable for each section), or you can email it to your students/families. You will need to copy the link and insert it into a Calendar event, a Course Update (Secondary View), and email to parents. Students can click the link to join the meeting. The Teams Meeting will open in your Teams App and function as the way you currently use Teams.


Create a Teams Meeting from a Material

To create a Teams meeting within a course item or event:

1. From an Assignment, Discussion, Folder, Page, or Add Event, click the Insert Content icon and select Teams Meeting. 

2. Sign in with your Microsoft account if prompted to. 

3. Click Create meeting link

4. Enter a title for your meeting. 

5. Click Create. A link to the Teams meeting is automatically displayed in the description of the course material. ***Be sure to add a description or explanation for the meeting with the link.

6. Fill out the other information if using an assignment.

*For linked sections: If you want to add a different link for each class, click to customize the sections and select your first sections. Then repeat the process of creating and adding a link to customize it for each of your other linked sections.

***Note: Enter a due date to display the item containing the Teams meeting link in your course calendar.

7. Click Create to complete.

Join a Teams Meeting

To join a Team meeting:

1. Click the meeting link located in Schoology.

2. When you see the Redirect Notice, just wait and you will be redirected to the Teams Meeting. If after 5 seconds you are not redirected, click Continue.

3. You can choose to access the meeting from the Microsoft Teams desktop app or via web browser. If you have the desktop app, click the Open Microsoft Teams prompt. Alternatively, click Continue on this browser instead to join the meeting in a separate tab in your browser.Note: Sign in to your Microsoft Team account in a separate browser tab or on the desktop app before joining a meeting.

4. You may be prompted to allow access to your microphone and camera. Click Allow.

5. Set any video and audio option preferences and click Join now to enter the meeting. 


To join a Teams meeting from a mobile device or tablet:

1. Download the Microsoft Teams app on your device and sign in to your account.

2. Click the Teams meeting link located in the Schoology app.

3. You'll be automatically directed to the Microsoft Teams app on your device. Click Join now to enter the meeting. Alternatively, you can access Schoology from the mobile browser. Click the Teams meeting link in Schoology to launch the Microsoft Teams app and join the meeting.


End a Teams Meeting

1. Click the drop-down menu next to the word Leave in the upper right-hand corner.

2. Click on End meeting. ***This is an important step to ensure the class meeting is fully ended. If you only press Leave then you will leave the meeting, but the meeting will remain active for students.
