OneDrive Schoology Integration - Creating OneDrive Assignments

SAU #19 teachers can create OneDrive Assignments for using through two methods. They can create a OneDrive Assignment in Schoology that will provide a copy of a OneDrive file for each student to edit, or they can create an assignment that will allow students to create their own OneDrive file and attach it to an Assignment themselves. Please follow the directions below on how to create OneDrive Assignments:

Creating OneDrive Assignments (that provides a copy of a OneDrive file for each student to edit)
1. Log into Schoology and click into a Course you want to add a OneDrive Assignment to.

2. Navigate to the folder you want the Assignment to be located into (Elementary and Middle School teachers need to at least add it to the Coursework folder). Then click Add Materials and select Add Assignment from the drop-down menu.

3. Add a Title for your Assignment into the Name field. Then add a Description of the Assignment into the Description section.

4. Click the OneDrive Assignments button.

If you haven’t linked your account, click on this link to follow the steps to link your account (you should only need to do this once): SAU19 Knowledge Base - OneDrive - Linking Student Accounts in Schoology.

5. Choose the file to assign to the students and click on it to select it, and then press Attach

This will create a copy of the assignment for all your students.

6. Enter a Category, number of points, and Due Date for the Assignment. Then click Create.

You can customize the Assignment if you are utilizing Linked Sections, but please note that we have learned some important information from the Schoology engineers regarding Unpublishing assignments for specific Sections and its behavior when syncing to PowerTeacher Pro. If you choose to leave an assignment for a Section Unpublished, it will not appear in your Schoology Gradebook for that Section; however, it will sync a blank column to your PowerTeacher Pro Gradebook. This is intended behavior, according to the development team.

The work around for this, is to either leave the blank column in PTP and delete it at the very end of the grading period, or you can Publish the assignment to all Sections. Then mark the assignment with the Exempt Exception Flag for all students within the Section not completing the assignment.

Please Note: Since OneDrive is a Third-Party App in Schoology, assignments cannot be created and then just copied into each Course. The assignment shell will copy, but the OneDrive Assignment Resources itself will not. This is the same case if trying to create inside Resources and then copy back into a class.

If you are not a Grade Syncing Teacher, then you can leave the Category set to Ungraded.

Allowing Students to Individually Upload OneDrive Resources to an Assignment:

You can also embed a presentation or OneDrive file into the Assignment Description for students to use as a resource. This will not be editable by students.
Click the Insert Content icon and then select Microsoft OneDrive.

Check the circle next to the file you want to embed and then click Embed.

Once imported, it will show as a blank screen in the text box - this is expected.

4. Do Not click any of the Format Options. Students will not be given the options to attached files to an Assignment if any of these are selected.

If you are not a Grade Syncing Teacher, then you can leave the Category set to Ungraded.

Please Note: This type of Assignment can be copied into all of your Course with no issues.

Students can now create their work in Microsoft OneDrive and then attach it to your assignment by following the directions outlined in this link: SAU19 Knowledge Base - Schoology - Attaching a OneDrive File to an Assignment.
