Creating Google Assignments - New Schoology Integration

Schoology has enhanced its integration with Google Workspace for Education through the Updated Google Assignments workflow. This update will streamline the assignment process while offering powerful new tools.

What’s New and Improved?

The Updated Google Assignments workflow combines the best of both worlds—Google’s collaborative tools and Schoology’s learning management features. Here's how it improves upon previous workflows:

Dual Grading Options

You can now choose to grade assignments either in Schoology or directly in Google Assignments, giving you flexibility based on your preferred workflow.

Please Note: For grades to populate in the Schoology Gradebook, you will need to select the Schoology option.

Enhanced Rubric Support

Unlike previous versions, the updated workflow supports both Google Rubrics and Schoology Rubrics, allowing for more consistent and customizable grading.

Improved Submission Monitoring

Submissions can be tracked in both the Google Assignments UI or the Schoology Submissions tab, offering better visibility into student progress.

Improved Visibility for Parents and Co-Teachers

Submissions can be reviewed in the Schoology Submissions tab by parents and co-teachers with ease when Schoology grading is selected. Allowing co-teachers and parents to view the students’ work as soon as it is submitted.

How to Create a Google Assignment:

1. Click into a Schoology Course.

2. Click Add Materials and select Add Assignment

3. Add the Assignment Title and Description

4. Set the Due DatePoints, and Category prior to adding the Google Assignment.

Please Note: Do not forget to click the word bubble icon to disable the Assignment comments.

5. Click the Google Assignments button. Do not use the old Google Drive Assignments button.

6. The first time you use Google Assignments, you may be asked to link your account. Click Link. In the next window, click Link again.

In future Assignments, you will just be prompted to confirm your account. Click Continue to confirm your account.

7. Configure the Google assignment, choose a grading method, and then click Create. You can attach multiple files for the students to receive a copy of.

*Toggle Check plagiarism (originality) to off.

Please Note: Although this plagiarism feature is available, our Google Suite for Education subscription limits your usage of the plagiarism checker with originality reports to three assignments total per Course.

*Add a Google Doc, Slide, or Sheet for students to complete. Each student receives a copy of this file when they open the assignment. Students can then work on the assignment and submit it directly in Schoology.

*Choose Schoology Learning to grade within Schoology and to populate in the Schoology Gradebook.

9. Review the assignment details, and then click Create to publish the assignment.

The Assignment will now be listed in the Materials Section of your Schoology Course, as well as in the Gradebook.

Please Note: If this is the first time you are using the new Google Assignment integration in a set of linked Courses, you will need to link the assignment to all Sections. After you the assignment is created, click on the assignment. Click the Section drop-down menu and click into the next linked Section.

Click Link to link the Section.

Repeat the linking process for all Sections.
