Unable to Access Google Materials (Google Security Updates)

We’ve recently received information that Google has implemented several security updates. These changes affect all connections between Google and other learning management systems (LMSs) or programs that rely on Google integrations. Consequently, the integration with Schoology has been affected. These changes may have impacted your access to Google content over the past week, requiring you to re-add content or allow access to each individual file.

To minimize the impact, Schoology has just released new changes so when users (students and staff) re-log into Google through Schoology they will be prompted once to grant permission. Once permissions are granted, users will be able to access Google content without any additional steps.

Students and staff will need to follow these steps to re-log into Google through Schoology and to grant permission to access content:

1. When adding Google content or clicking on a previously added document, you may be prompted to re log in. If not, click on the options button you see in the screenshot and select, ‘Account Settings’.

2. Then re log into your Google account. You will get a few prompts to go through to allow Schoology to access your Google files. You may need to log out of Google within Schoology and then re log back in.

Once you do complete these steps, you should be able to access your files. If you continue to see error messages after following these steps, please try re-logging in again.

When adding content, you may see a message on the Google Screen that "There are currently no items in this collection". This does not mean you do not have anything in Google, this is part of the permission changes. No new content has been accessed since the changes, therefore you just need to add them.

1. Click on 'Add files from Google Drive'.

2. Your Google Drive will open, and you can select the files to add, which grants access to Schoology to add them. Then click 'Select'.

Note: This view will mimic the look in your Google Drive so if you have items organized into folder, they will be easier to locate.

3. Your file will now appear. You can select and import it.
